Is Dinosaur Valley State Park dog-friendly?

Pets are allowed in Texas State Parks, but pet owners must follow a few basic rules. Pets should be on a leash, in a car, or in a crate at all times. Leashes must be 6 feet or less.

THINGS TO DO AT DINOSAUR VALLEY STATE PARK

So, you've heard that Dino Valley is a great vacation spot. But what can you do here? These are some of our favorite activities that the state park offers.

SEE DINOSAUR TRACKS

Obviously the main draw to Dinosaur Valley is the fossils and tracks. There are five different segments where you can find multiple sets of prints. You'll find either Sauropod tracks or Theropod tracks, both distinct and very exciting to find.

21 different sets of tracks can be found, and moving around the valley can make for a great time. Children will love this trek–especially if they love dinosaurs. But that doesn't mean adults won't find it cool.

HIKING TRAILS

After you're done admiring the tracks, you'll probably want to do something more adventurous! Several hiking trails pepper the valley, all practically begging to be explored. If you don't want to walk the path, but ride it in style, you can also bike across the dusty hills on your mountain bike. Just make sure to bring it along!

BLUE HOLE

Need to cool down? The Blue Hole is the most popular place to swim in the park. With a small beach, calming reservoir water, and gorgeous rocky scenery make for an unforgettable swimming experience!

Dino Dive
If you're up for a challenge with friends, the Dino Dive is a recurring event that happens every year on January 1. People from around Texas congregate near Blue Hole to plunge in the freezing water. It is, after all, the coldest time of year to visit. Does this sound like a challenge to you? Prove that you can beat the freeze with ease!

Kayaking
Don't forget that you can rent a kayak from the park for a relatively inexpensive price. Each Kayak is about $25 per hour, making it an exceptionally great value.

DINOSAUR WORLD

Those who haven't had their dinosaur fill will be thrilled to stop by the nearby dinosaur museum. It's a great place to take kids after a long day in the sun. Museum exhibits, fossil digging, and life-size models of dinosaurs will keep you occupied for hours.
